Nick Wallace is a Canadian illusionist and performance artist. He has been described as a Master of subtle illusion and manipulation. He can best be described as a minimalist – who has forgone fancy props and special effects and prefers to conjure with an audiences imagination by presenting magic and mind reading in a way that is both entertaining and thought provoking. In 2010 he was named Canadian champion of magic by the Canadian Association of Magicians. He is the co-creator of Séance with Nicholas Wallace (2013) and Strange and Unusual (2017).
The goal is always to tell a good story, and create a world that is believable, especially when unbelievable things start happening. Drama requires cause and effect. A magic trick on its own is all effect and no cause. For me it’s important to have the message and/or story support and justify the illusion, and vice versa. Having an audience ask “why did he do that” is a lot more interesting then having them ask “how did he do that”, and it’s a question they can find some satisfaction in answering.
