Mark Furukawa (Dr. Disc),

DJ,

Hamilton

Mark Furukawa has always let his passion for music guide him, and from the time he started DJing in his teens, music became the focal point around which his life revolved. Furukawa moved to Hamilton (from London via Barrie) in 1991 to open Dr. Disc, the music store, and after seemingly “hanging up his headphones” to focus on making his business a success, was drawn back to the creative art of DJing in 2013 when he co-founded a carefully curated, vinyl-only DJ event called Discography. Currently, “DJ Mark” also has local DJ residencies at The Mule and The Casbah.

Music is a powerful stimulus and a language all its own that transcends race, religion and culture. And a true DJ is a creator who, by skillfully weaving a musical collage, can enhance or change the atmosphere and mood of an environment, and also evoke a powerful emotional and physical response from a listener. Through the manipulation of music using vinyl records only, the tangibility of which I feel somehow brings me closer to the music, this is what I strive to achieve through the art of DJing.
